Salman al-Farsi, a prominent companion of the Prophet of Islam (PBUH), has been represented in multiple ways across various historical discourses. Utilizing Foucault's theory of discourse, this research addresses the question of how different perspectives on the character of Salman have been shaped among various Islamic sects and what factors have contributed to the reproduction of these diverse images. The hypothesis of the article is that each of these discourses, in accordance with its own ideology, power structure, and logic of knowledge, has presented a particular interpretation of Salman, which is not a reflection of historical reality but rather the product of discursive mechanisms. In Shiite discourse, he is introduced as the "Proof of God" (Hujjat Allah) and a supporter of Ali's Imamate, with his virtues and loyalty to the Ahl al-Bayt (the Prophet's Household) being highlighted to reinforce the divine legitimacy of the Imamate. In the discourse of the Ghulat (exaggerators), Salman is portrayed as possessing a status beyond that of ordinary humans, endowed with esoteric knowledge and a divine role. In Sunni discourse, his role is limited to accompanying the Prophet (PBUH), avoiding any emphasis on a special status for him. The Sufis regard him as a symbol of asceticism, mystical knowledge, and spiritual journey, representing him as a true mystic. Al-Shu'ubiyya, relying on Salman's Iranian identity, considers him a symbol of Iran's cultural superiority and resistance against Arab dominance. In modern nationalism, this image has been redefined with a more critical approach and in opposition to religious structures. This article demonstrates that the differences in historical narratives concerning Salman al-Farsi are not the result of objective differences in sources, but rather stem from the competition of discourses to control the narrative of history and identity construction.
