Qura was a group of Qur'anic scholars and teachers formed afterthe
death of the Prophet (PBUH) and became one of the most influential
groups in the first two centuries. The tribal structure of Arabsociety
and the function of Qura in the most important points of Islamic history,
have given an increasing importance to the analysis of their functions
and its relation to the tribal system. Therefore, recognizing and
influencing the social structure of Arab society and their identity
independence is an issue that can play an important role in shaping,
modifying and identifying one of the most important social layers of
Islamic society. The present study, that seeks to criticize thetribalbased approach to explaining Qura performance, firstly attemptsto
explain this view and then, with a descriptive-analytical approach,
referring to historical sources, to illustrate the strengths and weaknesses
of this view, and to get a definite approach of nature and function of the
Qura class. The results of the studies show that the Qura were not a
group of Arabs gathered around tribal tendencies but a class ofIslamic
society who knew their identity based on Qur'anic concepts.
Accordingly, despite the strong structure of the tribal system in early
Islamic society, the Qura did not confine themselves to existing social
traditions and attempted to formulate their social identity around their
reading of the Qur'an by preserving the independence of their
performance in various fields.
