The contemporary history of the Islamic world has been accompanied by various issues and crises, some of which, despite their profound impact on the problems and backwardness of the Islamic world, have persisted over time, with colonialism being one of the most significant of them. The present study aims to examine the response and engagement of the Hawzah of Najaf with the phenomenon of colonialism in the Islamic world, particularly regarding the issue of Palestine as a product and instrument of colonial powers. This research, conducted using a descriptive-analytical and historical approach, demonstrates that the Hawzah of Najaf adopted both interpretive and jihadi responses. On one hand, it sought to identify colonial policies and issue anti-colonial religious rulings (fatwas), and on the other, it issued jihadi rulings and supported armed resistance against colonialism. From the outset, the Hawzah recognized the depth of the crisis concerning Palestine, the most important issue in the Islamic world, and actively addressed it through historical lectures, conferences, publication of articles, and issuance of jihadi fatwas against Zionism as a creation of colonial powers. According to the Hawzah of Najaf perspective, the liberation of Palestine from colonial control can only be achieved through the awakening of Muslims, a return to Islamic identity, unity, cohesion, mobilization of the Muslim Ummah, and direct jihad and struggle against colonial powers.
